Punch club : Review

Hello guys today we have a review for punch club ,

Punch Club is a retro boxing management game that brought attention to itself by an unusual Steam release model. If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end.

What is happening in the game: I'll let myself kidnap this section of my review for a brief explanation of how this game was launched. You could preorder the game on Steam for -20% and the preorder would last until the Twitch community wouldn't beat the game on the ongoing live stream. They would make each in-game decision by voting in the chat and the most voted option would be executed. Twitch viewers have already beaten the game now, so this game is ready to be played. In the game, you play as a boxer whose dad died of violent death. You have to train yourself to become better and better, win matches, do jobs, eat, help other people and plenty of other stuff. You progress in the storyline by completing missions.

About this game :

Your father was brutally murdered before your eyes. Now you must train hard, eat chicken and punch dudes in the face to earn your place in the Punch Club ranks, and discover who ended your father's life.

Punch Club is a boxing tycoon management game with multiple branching story lines. Your goal is clear, but how you get there depends on whether you want to legitimately climb the rankings, or take the more ridiculous, shady route.

Along the way you'll want to focus your talents. Will you take the Way of the Tiger, the Way of the Turtle, or the Way of the [other one?]? Your strength, accuracy and agility all depends on whichever Way enlightens your path. Do you have stripes, or flippers?

And every decision will matter, especially in your social life. You'll be juggling friendships, love life, work, recreational time, relationships, and possible stardom, all alongside your gym time and fighting aligators. It's not all just pumping iron, you know.

Lets start the review :

Pros: Graphics | I love 'em. That's not the case with most retro-looking games, but I definitely love the way Punch Club looks. Colours are well-chosen and the animations are made well, too. The resolutions and the fullscreen/windowed mode work as expected.

Missions | I really like how the whole game progress consists of separate missions. You still get to train yourself, fight and do usual stuff, but to really keep going, you have to complete missions. I have to say that most of the missions are done well, meaning that there are no really hard ones or if there are, you have other easier missions to complete at the same time. Another thing I really like is that you get an achievement for every single missions you complete, bringing additional enjoyment and stimulation to the whole experience.

The Soundtrack | The soundtrack also follows the retro style of the game and they managed to make some pretty good tracks. As it should, it fits the gameplay and the way the game looks. If you're into it, you can buy the DLC containing both the OST and the artbook. Get it here.

Training System | It's almost like in real life, just a bit faster: you get slightly weaker every day, if you don't train enough. This prevents someone from just farming money from jobs or something like that, but forces the player to play a balanced game and worry about multiple things at once.

The Story | For a boxing management game, I have to say that I'm impressed with the story setup. Punch Club begins with a cutscene and it continues throughout the whole game. Heck, it even has multiple endings! I bet you didn't see that coming. Steam Integration and OSs | You can train your boxing hero on Windows, SteamOS and MacOS. You also get tons of achievements and Trading Cards. There is also Steam Cloud support.

Cons: Slight Repetitiveness | You have to train yourself. The way to do this is pretty much the same all the time. Combined with an excellent story, it's not so bad, though. Gym Entry Price | You have to pay 10$ each day to go to the gym. To afford that, you have to save on food sometimes. However, there is a way of getting free food in the game, which makes things a bit easier.

The final verdict: This is a charming retro management with a surprisingly good story and really nice graphics. The gameplay is simple and I fell in love with it. It is assumed that is has around 15-20 hours of gameplay time and for a price of 10$, I think the purchase is worth your money. If you can't afford that, definitely consider getting this game as soon as it gets discounted.
