My workspace routinely gets above 95 F. My office is out on a screened in porch so I can watch the wildlife during the day. So my laptop gets really, really hot. Parts of it get so hot to the touch I wonder if I could fry an egg on it. The Florida heat is relentless. This laptop cooler fits on your laptop if you have a SIDE VENT. If your vent is on the bottom, consider another product as this won't do anything for you. The way it works is you adhere a metal slide that fits into a plastic piece to the bottom of you laptop. (You can make it work without sticking anything to your laptop if you so desire. So you can use on multiple computers.) When not in use, the metal slide can slide in, out of the way. When in use, just pull the slide out and connect to the fan blower unit and use the two little arms to grip the top of the laptop. It goes on easy whether you adhere the slide to the bottom of your laptop or if you use it without sticking anything to your computer. There is a set of 3 silicone shrouds that you can use to funnel the hot air into the fan unit. But mine works well without the silicone shroud. So, once you have it on the computer, either permanently or temporarily, you can plug it in and turn it on. It plugs in using a MicroUSB to USB cable, which is included. It has an automatic mode that adjusts the fan speed according to the amount of hot air blowing out of the laptop. It will dynamically switch speeds by how much hot air is blowing out of the computer. You can override the dynamic mode and adjust the speed of the fan manually. Either way, you get cooling. I like to put it near the highest setting when the temps out here get into the 90s. So, how well does it work? My laptop was getting so hot I could hardly stand to type on it. The wrist rest and keyboard were over 100 F as measured with an infrared sensor. Now, with the cooler installed, even with the temps in the 90s, the laptop measures in the high 70s where it was once 100 F plus. The wrist rest is cool to the touch. This thing really cools my laptop. I am really shocked and impressed with how well this device works. If you are noticing errors and experiencing the computer locking up on hot days, you might be overheating the computer.
