Review :

Graphics are stunning. I don't care what anyone says regarding some low res textures for the interiors mostly. That was obvious in the original and while I don't think they are trying to pay a homage to that here, the game is primarily outdoors so the interiors should never be distracting enough like that. They do have enough little details littered about inside and there is zero load time. You literally walk in and out of a structure as you please. Aside from that gripe that others may have mentioned, the characters detail, shading, and animations are all solid. I'm highly satisified with them all around and think a lot of people are going to be blown away the second you leave the starting snow region.

Sound is an interesting one. The game had amazing sound to begin with. From the sound of walking and crunching the snow, to the splash of the water when you swim around, it's almost like you are there. I don't however feel like they truly updated it in HD/HQ though. It's like the exact same files were used. Again, I'm not sure that is a bad thing because the original to this day has some amazing sound effects that compete with whatever is out. Even the voice acting seems to have been carried over. Again, because I had no problems with the original, I have zero problems here.

The controls I am still getting used to as you can tell by my barely anything game time. I'm almost thinking the original still had tighter controls. Mostly because they introduced a new dodge feature now and I feel like I keep accidently activating it when I'm using the introduced sprint feature. Again, these can be things I'll probably get used to but as of now, the original without these extra moves seemed a lot easier to control. Otherwise, the game is still a 3rd person action adventure where you freely move the protagnist anywhere the hell you want.

The interface. Probably the second most welcoming introduction to compliment the new graphics. The way you can review your inventory, dialague with the locals, and activate the save feature have been hella improved. I can't find anything wrong here.

Final word. If were ever a fan or slightly had interest in the original Outcast, this is really a no brainer. If you ever got pretty far in the original and maybe got tired of it or thought something was too difficult, why not give it a shot in this day and age? Surprisingly, the gameplay which has not changed since 1999 remains competitive with current modern games. I mean it didn't win 100s of awards back in 1999 for nothing. It's a fun action adventure with plenty to do and see. I'm stoked to see the other worlds because I think any fan of the original had his favorite world as you can describe them as the snow region, city region, jungle, farmlands, volcanic, and waterworld. My favorite being the waterworld :)

Highly recommended. Future patch thoughts. A little more on the configuration side. I'd like to be able to map the mouse buttons with the movements. Currently it appears to only map the keys. I'd also like to set a crouch HOLD vs toggle as I never liked toggle in any of my games.

I also wouldn't mind more graphic options although I run it maxed perfect so I don't think there is anything else for me to see here. I'm sure others with weaker machines though would like to be able to tweak certain aspects that they can do less with and more of the other.
