My review : My benefits from this feature were there to benefit my game play and I had them on day 1. However, I can honestly say the reasons I first purchased the router are not my favorite features now, having become much more familiar with the power this one little box can provide. Yes, it will give you the ability to limit WHERE in the world your P2P hosts are located. Yes, it will allow you to see individual ID's for dedicated servers (and temp ban them for 5 minutes of real time a piece) and it will allow you to avoid them when you find one or two that don’t play well. You can pick an area around your residence, enlist the help of the Geo Filter (with ping assist set to zero, ‘STRICT’ mode ticked) and control where you connect to a host. In older titles, like BO2 or MW3, this is priceless for me as not everyone who plays the game has internet that can host another 11 players in fast moving action. Find a guy who is host modding? It’s irritating, especially if you get one of those lobbies you can’t leave unless you dashboard, right? With the Duma, you can rate him poorly and insure he never gets host again in any of your lobbies. That will help keep the modded lobbies down for your gaming enjoyment.
These are all features that made me purchase in the first place.
The true power IMO of the NetDuma R1 lies in what it has done for my household and my personal Quality of Life.
Congestion Control: If you are of the modern era, you either have roommates, you are living with a significant other, or you are one of the truly rare people who is able to live alone. If you fall into any of these categories, then Congestion Control will IMMEDIATELY make your quality of life better as well.
This benefit will extend to you, no matter the size of your bandwidth. This will prove particularly useful if you do not have a giant internet fiber piped into your residence from Google or FiOS/other, but even with Uber high speed internet, this will benefit you.
Congestion control allows you to ‘reserve’ some bandwidth for gaming. Without Congestion Control when other members of the house come in/home/back and start streaming Netflix or YouTube, surfing Facebook and the like, they are sending and receiving packets of information on the same shared line that you are using for gaming. These requests can induce ping spikes that will effectively stomp all over your gaming packets, effectively making it even harder to compete in an online environment.
The flip-side is that you no longer have to negotiate gaming periods in the evening with the spouse. You can game with them flipping through Facebook like a speed reader, while streaming Netflix and downloading a torrent, keeping them happy and not affecting your gaming session. Your congestion control will keep a bit of bandwidth reserved for those precious 1’s and 0’s you need to keep that streak alive.
