My review about this game :

Unique and astonishing!

SoulCalibur VI is currently my favourate fighting game on Steam. The character creator is extremely detailed and one of the best I've seen. I've created over 20 characters and they are all unique. I even managed to create Ciri from the Witcher franchise and put her up against Geralt. Witcher on Witcher combat...What could be better? I've seen people create Dante, 2B, Simpsons and more. Creative freedom at its best. There are 16 races and 22 playstyles to choose from and you can create up to 100 custom characters which is more than enough. You can also create a custom portrait for each of your character.

Why is SoulCalibur VI my favourate fighting game? It has a unique campaign, extraordinary character creation and the gameplay itself is simply THAT fun. I'm not very good at fighting games. I've played Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, Skullgirls, Injustice and Killer Instinct and while I love almost all of them they all have one flaw: Multiplayer is always full of tryhards who memorised each and every combo and they stunlock you. This is not the case here. You can dodge, counter and evade each attack with ease. At times it reminds me of rock, paper, scissors. In 37 hours I've managed to get every single multiplayer achivement and I've had a lot of fun in Ranked. The only complaint I have is about casual matchmaking. Just like in Mortal Kombat XL you can either create a room or join other player created rooms. That sounds good, right? Well all rooms are basically King of The Hill rooms. You can't challenge other players into a friendly training match or anything like that. What is King of The Hill? One player, The Champion, sits at the top of the player list. They stay there until someone beats them. Meaning that you join a room, wait till you can play and if you lose you go back into the bottom of the list and wait some more. You can't challenge other players and imagine how long you have to wait if there's eight players in one room. I played casual till I got all the achivements related to it and then moved to Ranked. You can earn Soul Points (SP) while playing ranked. SP is mostly used to unlock customisation items in the character creator. Either you win or lose a match doesn't matter. You get 50SP every time you finish a match. That's another issue with casual: It doesn't reward SP.

Speaking of Soul Points. There's an Arcade mode in which you play against 8 random characters and earn bronze, silver and gold medals. Earning medals rewards titles and a lot of SP. There's 5 different difficulties in which you can complete the mode and test your skills at: Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard and an unlockable Legendary difficulty. You can queue for ranked matches while playing Arcade.

Now let's talk about Libra of Souls, a secondary story mode. It's kind of like an RPG. You create your character, complete sidequests, level up, earn money and experience, collect weapons, hire mercenaries and make decisions. Decision making is pretty basic but something that's still quite new in the fighting game genre. Every decision you make comes down to choosing between the red (evil) and blue (good) option. You can travel from town to town, buy new weapons and upgrade them. Each town has their own little side-quests but don't expect anything fancy. It's a fighting game and so all you do in those quests is fight, fight and fight some more. Fight until you drop. You can also obtain food. Food gives you boosts for upcoming battles. You can do more damage, have higher critical hit rate, regenerate health and so on. It's a fun mode and definitely took me by surprise. A must have for fighting game fans.
